Starting with the basics, Cyclo-Core was developed by Graeme Street, a personal trainer with a passion for cycling. Graeme has a degree in exercise physiology and nutrition, but Cyclo-Core seems to be a product of his love for the sport of cycling.
The Cyclo-Core training program launched in 2004. It took the cycling world by storm because everyone was focused on doing intervals and tons of riding, and they really neglected the off-bike training. The Cyclo-Core program changed all of that, especially once the positive reviews started pouring in.
But let's look at the product itself...
Cyclo-Core is a core-specific workout program designed for cyclists. So it consists of fast pace, high intensity workouts performed off the bike. The workouts focus on the muscles of your core, abs, lower back, hips, etc, which are the muscles that play a very important role in cycling, but... cycling does NOT work these muscles!
What the main goal is, is to improve the conditioning of all these muscles that cycling does not work, so that they can stand up to hours of hard riding. A stronger core will provide you with improved stamina so you can ride longer and hold a better, more aerodynamic position, along with giving you a stable base to push against when you're really driving your legs.
The workout comes on a DVD and includes 3 sets of bodyweight exercises, 3 sets of resistance training exercises, stretching and recovery sections, and a bonus abdominal workout. Along with the DVD you get 2 audio CDs with expert interviews and commentary about cycling and nutrition.
What could be the best part about these workouts is the length. Each workout lasts less than 30 minutes and it gives you a full-body workout! While a 2 hour ride might not fit your schedule, you can probably fit in a 30 minute workout before work or before bed.
Overall, the Cyclo-Core program appears very promising and useful for all cyclists.
