Cyclo-Core FAQ

cyclo-core dvd

If you still have questions about the details of Cyclo-Core, chances are that someone else does, too. We did our best to get all the answers to questions we've seen, and they are posted below.

Do I need a stationary trainer to use Cyclo-Core?

No. In fact, you don't even need a bike at all. All of the workouts can be done in your home without any expensive equipment! (The only equipment you might want would be a yoga mat, stability ball, and a couple light dumbbells.)

Is this yet another weight lifting program?

No. It is designed with light resistance and functional movements that provide a total body workout. A few exercises call for light dumbbells, but the majority of the program uses nothing more than your bodyweight. This is because the program focuses on bicycling, not body building.

Is Cyclo-Core a substitute for riding?

I'd say it's more of a complement to your riding. While you should emphasize cross-training more in the off-season, you don't have to quit riding. For example, you could do a couple sets of Cyclo-Core workouts, an interval day on the bike, and a light spin every week.

If Cyclo-Core is replacing anything, it would replace your weight-lifting routine.

So... how often do I perform the Cyclo-Core exercises?

This is a tricky quesion and depends on your specific fitness level. The best answer comes straight from the Cyclo-Core site though: "The Cyclo-Core Program is more of a moderate to high intensity program, so you would want to only perform it 2-3 times during a 7 day period with easy spin workouts and maybe one high intensity trainer workout mixed in on alternate days."

In that case, do I have to be an elite level cyclist or racer to benefit from Cyclo-Core?

Not at all. Everyone can benefit from the increased core strength and fitness from Cyclo-Core, even if you have no desire to compete! For example, increased core strength will allow you to ride for longer periods of time with less discomfort. Say goodbye to lower back pain from long days in the drops!

Can I do this workout on the road?

Yes! Since Cyclo-Core requires little to no equipment, it can easily be performed in a hotel room during your free time.

Can I do this workout during the summer, during peak riding season?

Sure. Doing Cyclo-Core year round will maintain all the core strength you gained during the off-season. Just be sure to scale back your Cyclo-Core workouts as you increase your riding. (Doing Cyclo-Core once per week will be enough.)

Do I need a DVD player?

Yes. Cyclo-Core is not available on VHS, so you will need a DVD player. If you don't have a DVD player, you can get one for your TV for as little as $20. These days you can even get a portable DVD player with its own screen for under $100. (If your computer will read DVDs, you can use that, too.)
